Circulars Sales

I’m taking it back old school – to the weekly circulars in the local newspaper. Generally, I immediately stick these in my recycling bin. Today, I am going to walk away from my computer and use the actual paper to try and find the best food bargains in town.

For those of you who are like me and discard this section, there are separate sections for Albertson’s savings and Smith’s savings. My eyes immediately went to “Win Free Groceries for a Year” on the Albertson’s front page. All you have to do is purchase $50 worth of groceries and your entry is automatic. I decided I must try this to see what happened. So, I began to look at the other Alby’s deals and made a list of the items that were a steal (and that I would actually use in my household). These include “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” signature boneless skinless chicken breast or tenders, “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” fresh strawberries, $2.99 for Albertson’s smoked bacon, 10 for $10 Chobani Greek Yogurt Cups, 10 for $10 Bumble Bee chunk light tuna, 99-cents for Fresh Hass avocados and best of all sweets: 2 for $7 Haagen-Dazs ice cream and Betty Crocker mix (muffins, brownies and supreme bars – I prefer the brownies!).

I set out shopping and ended up filling my basket with other items I needed, which put me well over the $50 mark. At checkout I saved a total of $27.56 on a bill of $117.10! The friendly cashier did not ask me if I wanted to enter to “win free groceries for a year,” so I inquired. He said that entry was in fact automatic with my Albertson’s preferred savings card (reminder, you must have an Albertson’s preferred savings card to qualify for these savings). Not going to hold my breath, but I will be thrilled if I do win this grocery giveaway.

The Smith’s savings look promising as well, with some similar deals such as strawberries “2 for $5” and 10 for $10 Chobani, Dannon Greek yogurt or Dannon Activia parfait. Smith’s also has deals on Valentine’s candy. Holiday candy is my weakness, as I love all the special shapes that are not offered during other times of the year. Hershey’s Valentines Candy is 2 for $6, Snickers or 3 Musketeers are $3.49 and Brach’s conversation hearts Valentine candy is 10 for $10. I also noticed that Smith’s has a section devoted to natural foods, such as Bragg organic apple cider vinegar 2 for $6 and Simple Truth organic milk $2.99.

I will have to check this out next week.
